List fields

ViralSweep supports these 3 field types:

👍

List fields

Email |EMAIL|

First Name |FNAME|

Last Name |LNAME|

If your list has all three of these fields set to required, but you don't have first or last name fields added on your giveaway, then emails will not be added to MailChimp. To import just emails, make sure to remove the FNAME and LNAME fields from your list settings, or set them to not be required.

Troubleshooting

If you have connected your giveaway to MailChimp and email addresses are not being added to your list, these are the most common reasons as to why:

❗️

Email already in MailChimp list

The email address entered into the giveaway may already be in your MailChimp list, so it will not be added again.

❗️

Email already entered into ViralSweep

The email address entered into the giveaway has already been entered into the giveaway, so therefore it is not passed to MailChimp.

❗️

Delay in reporting

MailChimp is having a delay in reporting. Try exporting your MailChimp list and you should see the most recent email addresses added.

❗️

User did not opt-in

If you have double opt-in enabled, the user may not have clicked the link in their double opt-in confirmation email that was sent to them. If they don't click that link, they won't be added.

❗️

Required fields missing

Your MailChimp list has required fields that are not on your giveaway. Check your MailChimp list field settings to see what information you are asking for.

Changing the double opt-in email

MailChimp has the double opt-in requirement in place in order to ensure that you are building an email list of high quality leads that want to receive emails from you. This is a necessary requirement to keep your spam complaints low so that you can have a high delivery rate.

The standard double opt-in email that MailChimp sends out is something you will want to tweak in order to have it apply to your giveaway, which will help increase your opt-ins.

Here is how to change the content of this email:

👍

Customize the double opt-in email

  1. In your MailChimp dashboard click 'Lists'

  2. Click on the list that you want to edit

  3. From the menu click 'Signup forms'

  4. Click 'General forms'

  5. Click the drop down menu and choose 'Opt-in confirmation email'

From here you can edit all the text and colors by using the 'Build it', 'Design it', 'Translate it' tabs. We suggest changing the text of the email to relate it to your giveaway. A good example would be "Thanks for entering. Please click the link below to confirm your entry." Then change the text on the button by going to the 'Translate it' tab and make it say "Click here to confirm entry."

Disabling the double opt-in email

You have the ability to disable double opt-in so that email addresses are automatically added to your list without people having to confirm anything. To disable this, simply check off the 'Disable Double Opt-in' box when connecting to a list.

🚧

NOTE

Disabling double opt-in may not be the best thing for you. Keep an eye on your unsubscribe and spam complaint rates, as these numbers will usually go up if you turn off double opt-in.

🚧

NOTE

You'll want to check to see if the 'Final "welcome" Email' is turned on or off, as MailChimp will send this email out once someone enters your giveaway. You can find this email under Signup forms > General Forms > Final "welcome" Email.

Segmenting subscribers by source

If you're planning to import leads into an existing list, you may want to create segments to target people who signed up for your list through the giveaway. To do this simply click on your list, then create a new segment. You'll then want to sort by Signup Source > ViralSweep. Check out the example below to see how to do this.

🚧

NOTE

If your giveaway is not connected to MailChimp or no one has entered your giveaway yet, then you will not see 'ViralSweep' as a signup source.
